VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE!!!
I have been really loving the benefits of my trial with eating a RAW/VEGAN cuisine. Beyond the incredible taste of all that I've been eating, I have developed a better relationship with my food. In the RAW world, you are meant to prepare your food with LOVE and INTENT. Any kind of energy you put into your food will be put right back into your body. When you go to a restaurant with low energy/vibration food, your body will let you know that you just ate something undesirable.
I had dinner at PLANET RAW in Santa Monica last night with Agent Smalls and we ordered so much food! It was her first time eating this way and she was AMAZED at how delicious and flavorful everything was. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was four years old (she's 15 now) and is on the same Mission that I'm on! We left feeling satiated, but not over-stuffed! I was happy to broaden the horizon of her palate last night.
As we sat and waited for our food to be presented at the table, I pulled out my iPhone to show her pictures of food that I've been experiencing. I saw that I had more pictures of food than anything else on my camera (next to pictures of my Siberian kitty, Bisou). With genuinely shameless excitement, I was scrolling through and telling in-depth stories of how THIS tasted or what ingredients were in THAT.
It made me realize that I show pics of food to people in the same way others show pictures of their own children. Haha! Agent Smalls looked at me and said: "Jenna, I don't know ANYONE who loves food as much as you do!" I think I would have to agree with her on that one! If you want to see some of the pictures I'm talking about, you can follow me on TWITTER. I take pictures of food and upload them everyday! |

RAW/VEGAN exploration!
Today is fabulous day 4 of my RAW/Vegan diet!! It’s time to put my experiences and thoughts so far into a blog for my wonderful readers ☺
Firstly: how is the food? Well, I’ll tell you. It is DELICIOUS!! I’m drinking Kombucha every day, eating Larabars and RAW/Vegan garden burgers, and snacking on crispy kale. Here’s a list of my favorite products and restaurants so far.
- Spicy Kale Munchies – SunPower Natural. I’ve turned so many of my friends onto this snack, friends who aren’t even vegetarian, and they now swear by it too! I’ve also tried their raw cookies, and I’m so hooked. Next on my agenda: Visit their location! SunPower Natural Café, 3711 W. Cahuenga Blvd, Studio City – 818.308.7420 - www.sunpowernatural.com
- Kombucha – Synergy or GT’s Organic Raw. It’s a bit fizzy so careful opening, and don’t shake ‘em!! Gently turn over to mix up the cultures that settled to the bottom. The flavors are delicious! Passionberry is one of my top choices ☺ and my p.a. Caroline is a big fan of the Mystic Mango!
- Planet RAW – 609 Broadway Ave. Santa Monica - 310.587.1552 - www.planetraw.net - I’ve eaten dinner here like every night this week, and it’s so amazing!
- M Café - 7119 Melrose Ave, LA – 323.525.0588 – www.mcafedechaya.com
- EarthBar – 413 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica - 424.214.2851 - www.myearthbar.com
Secondly: how’s my energy level? Very important, when you consider what I do every day (multiple workouts & training sessions!) and I am thrilled to report that I’m peppy and energetic! No sluggishness, no lethargy, just bursting full of life!!
Thirdly: how’s the insulin dependence? Well, I’ve only been following this lifestyle since Monday, and I’ve had a lot going on, so it really hasn’t changed YET. Not that this is discouraging though, as I feel slimmer and more focused!
Basically, I’m really digging the RAW/Vegan choices!!

My ROCKSTAR clients - from Motion City Soundtrack - are getting in wicked shape!
About 6 weeks ago, I got an email from someone at Sony Music. She was looking for someone to train the band Motion City Soundtrack while they recorded their next album in Los Angeles for 2 and a half months. She was given my contact info and so it began. I was delighted to take on a group of 5 guys (Matt Taylor, Justin Pierre, Josh Cain, Jesse Johnson, and Tony Thaxton) and coach them on how to enhance their lifestyle by making smarter food choices and exercising efficiently. They all had been on the road and eating, well, whatever...
A few of them wanted to shed some pounds, but overall they just wanted to get in great shape and FEEL healthier! I even agreed to go 30 days sans alcohol with them (I love red wine so it wasn't an easy choice for me at first! But today is DAY 42 for me and I FEEL INCREDIBLE!). Check out their video for "This Is For Real" (my FAVORITE MCS song! I played it in my SPIN class on Friday!) by clicking HERE!!! Go to iTunes and DOWNLOAD IT IMMEDIATELY!!!
Week one consisted of core training, stability conditioning, and beach runs. We also busted out a couple trips to Whole Foods and I put them on a sensible and doable meal plan. I also gave them some menus from a few of my favorite restaurants in LA. The biggest challenge for them was downsizing their portions. I invited them to text/email me whenever they had a question about food and they totally took me up on that! Jesse, in particular, would take pictures of food and email them to me to make sure I approved! It was so awesome to see how serious they all are about making a shift towards holistic living. Week two was more of a breeze. Well, kind of... Haha! The food thing was catching on but the workouts were WAY more intense. We officially developed a LOVE/HATE relationship. /
After just 2 weeks of training they had to hit the road for about 10 days. I was elated that they were finding ways to stay active and make the best of the food that was available to them. We checked in with each other almost everyday to keep the momentum going. Once they were back in town, and by week 3 of training, they were TELLING me what they were ordering from my favorite restaurants (like M CAFE and REAL FOOD DAILY) and what they were COOKING for dinner! No more asking! Just TELLING! The daily updates via text and email from them made my face hurt because I was smiling so much!
By the beginning of the 4th week I put them all on the ISAGENIX 30 day program and they have been doing so well with it! They all just had their first cleanse day yesterday and passed with flying colors. They realized how doable the program is and are all feeling like HEALTHY ROCKSTARS! It has been so spectacular watching their energy, strength, and awareness shift in less than a month! They are all getting lean and powerful! Justin is no longer drinking coffee! He has switched over to green tea! You should see him with a kettlebell: perfect form! Matt is getting creative with his shakes and loving them. His core strength and alignment have improved exponentially! Josh is running WAY faster and his endurance is stronger. Jesse's biceps are getting super cut. I always ask him if he has extra tickets to the gun show. Haha! Tony is staying on top of his eating regimen while his shoulder heals! As soon as he is ready to pump iron I will be waiting with open arms! Below are some text message convos between us:
5/3/09 (between me and Matt)
Matt:
OMG! Almond butter + black cherry fruit spread + kamut cake = happy me. I can get my PB & J fix now! :)
Me:
Hell yeah!!! Sounds soooooo yummy!!! :)
5/14/09 (between me and Matt)
Me:
Btw, your form has improved so much and I love how focused you are. You never complain and are so determined!!! It'll pay off big time in the end. Keep it up Matt!!!
Matt:
That's awesome! Thx for the encouragement. I'm stoked and feeling good. U rule!!
5/11/09 (between me and Josh)
Josh:
I just made a tuna burger with spinach, tomato, mustard, and a dash of pesto on a whole grain bun
Me:
YES!!!!!!!!!! :) I LOVE IT!!!
Josh:
Jenna, I'm soooo stoked. Another belt loop in one week and I am fitting into a shirt that I could not wear when we first got out here!!!!!! I am so happy! Thanks for kicking my ass!
Me:
Gasp!!! Woo hoo!!! That makes me sooooo happy! I love that you guys GET IT!!! You will have incredible success on the Isagenix program!!!
5/20/09 (between me and Jesse)
Me:
Hey there, how are you feeling today?!
Jesse:
Pretty sore, but doing great! Just made some dinner (quinoa pasta, chicken, black beans, tomatoes, and greens) so I'm ready to eat at 6. That will be my last meal of the day besides some FAGE yogurt later.
Me:
Yes!!!!!!! I love it! So freaking proud of you! :) :) :) How's the Isagenix program coming along?
Jesse:
Isagenix is a piece of cake... Ha!
5/17/09 (between me and Justin)
Me:
Hey JP, how's the food stuff coming along?
Justin:
Eating small meals throughout the day, snacking on almonds, and drinking kombucha (plus I've had about 10 cups of green tea today. J/K)
Me:
Hahaha!!! Good, green tea is better than coffee. Proud of you :) :) :) EAT VEGGIES TOO!
Justin:
YOU EAT VEGGIES!
Me:
I have been ALL DAY! Haha! Good work today, btw.
Justin:
Thanks, you're crazy!
Me:
LOL! :)
5/20/09 (between me and Tony)
Me:
Hey! I ordered you a calcium supplement for you to add to your shakes. I know you were wanting to get enough calcium for your shoulder while it heals.
Tony:
Yes, thank you!
Me:
No need to drink cow's milk. Consuming 3 glasses of milk a day gives you the same amount of cholesterol as 21 slices of bacon. Yuck... Anyway, how did your cleanse go?
Tony:
Not gonna lie, I'm a bit hungry, but getting through it!
Me:
You can totally snack on veggies if you get super hungry. Proud of you for staying strong!! :) good news is: only one cleanse day each week in 30 days. :)
***********************************************************************************************
It was hard for me to select only a few convos to share. All of them have made me so proud and ecstatic! I cannot tell you how rewarding it has been for me to watch them take control of their lifestyles and transform before my eyes! I am so honored to be a part of that!
Getting to know these guys has been so much fun and they are some of the most down-to-earth, funny, easy going, and REAL people I have ever met in my entire life. If you don't have any of their songs on your iPod yet, spend your money on some quality tunes and check out these tracks: "This Is For Real", "It Had to Be You", and "Fell In Love Without You".
Follow all of us on Twitter to see what we've been up to!

Knowing when to receive
I happily and naturally focus my energy on hundreds of people every week (between training my private clients, kicking ass in Mission Possible™, teaching SPINNING, being a nutrition mentor, and a lifestyle coach) in person, on the phone, and on line. Most importantly, I LOVELOVELOVE all of it! I seriously have my dream job and I know that I was put on this planet to motivate and inspire others to enhance their health and lifestyle. With all the "work" that I do, it's easy to forget about Jenna time.
I recently made a commitment to myself to get a weekly massage so I can receive some TLC and R&R. I checked out this place called THIBIANT BEVERLY HILLS DAY SPA last week and I was in complete HEAVEN! I received a 50 minute Swedish massage and a Phytotherapy facial. I fell asleep during both treatments! The spa is luxurious and absolutely gorgeous! Talk about exquisite serenity! THIBIANT BEVERLY HILLS DAY SPA "is the ultimate destination for escaping your stress and experiencing your beauty - for an hour or two, or for the entire day."
So get THIS! If you want to get a facial from Georgette, you can get 30% off your first treatment if you mention MY NAME! How great is that?!
Check out their website by CLICKING HERE or call 310.278.7565 to make your appointment today! Give yourself some YOU time!!! |

Moderation vs. Deprivation
As I continue to write my eBook titled Moderation vs. Deprivation, I am always looking for new ways to enhance my daily lifestyle and keep my glucose levels in balance. I am on a MISSION to bring awareness of healthy and yummy alternatives to everyone across the country and, soon enough, the entire world! There are so many wonderful resources available to us, but there is almost TOO much information out there! This country is basically TOO advanced. What are you going to believe and how do you know which new diet or supplement or bottle of water or alternative sweetener to try? A lot of people are looking for the next diet to try because they honestly don't work. The key to longevity in ANYTHING is moderation. Having said that, there is no need to deprive yourself. How about just KEEPING IT SIMPLE AND BRINGING IT BACK TO BASICS?
- daily movement (quit taking the elevator and search for the stairs!)
- eat well balanced (and small!) meals 5 times a day - every 3 hours or so
- veggies, veggies, veggies, and some fruit
- whole grain everything! Nothing white (the white stuff is unnatural, processed, and missing nutrients)
- support your local businesses and get your produce from the farmers' market (most importantly, their produce isn't genetically engineered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
- if you look at the ingredients list of a packaged food and you can't recognize, or let alone PRONOUNCE some of the words, don't eat it
- furthermore, if the ingredients list looks more like a paragraph instead of a sentence, don't eat it
- do not deprive yourself! I love dark chocolate and Ice Pan (diabetic friendly ice cream)!!!
On days where I am really good to my body (movement throughout the day, drinking lots of water, and eating nourishing food) I only need about 5-10 units of Humalog. On days where I am sedentary and not eating mindfully I have to take at least double the amount of insulin (which still isn't a lot: 15-25 units of Humalog). I always feel icky on days like that. I liteally CRAVE exercise and healthy food! Once you DETOX your body of unhealthy garbage food and make exercising part of your day (like brushing your teeth), you can't really go back to your old ways without REALLY feeling it! My body doesn't want to have ANYTHING to do with a sedentary/unhealthy lifestyle. Been there, done that. It's so much more fun and colorful to enjoy the fruits of life!

One of the most REVOLUTIONARY things I've done for my HEALTH!!!
I just discovered an INCREDIBLE new treatment that I MUST share with all of you! It's called Enhanced External Counter Pulsation (EECP) at the Glogal Cardio Care Center. EECP has been known to improve diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, Parkinson's disease, and hypertension. It's a machine that is hooked up to your legs and it squeezes your calves, thighs, and butt at a pace to match your heart rate.
It manually pumps oxygenated blood throughout your entire body without making your heart work beyond its resting heart rate. Everything is monitored so you can see how your body will improve! It also helps to flush out your kidneys so get ready to lose some serious water weight. At my last treatment, I lost 2.4 lbs. of water weight. I LOVE IT!
It stimulates the growth of new blood vessels and pumps blood to all of your organs (i.e., the pancreas!!!) while taking tension off your heart. It's a passive cardiovascular "workout" while you do NOTHING! There are no side effects and it is approved by the FDA.
I have already had 5 treatments and noticed a difference in my energy level (especially while I teach Spinning!!!) and blood sugar. This could be one of the most IMPORTANT treatments you can do for your health. PLEASE CHECK IT OUT! YOUR FIRST TREATMENT IS FREE!!!!!!!! Check out their website by clicking HERE and/or call them to make an appointment! 310-412-8181 |

I just created my own health bar!
| Have you heard of youbars.com? If you haven't checked out their site, you must! You can literally pick and choose ingredients to make your own customized health bar!!!! YUMMY! The bar I created had a sunflower seed butter base with goji berries, cacao nibs, oats, cinnamon, spirulina, extra fiber and protein, and sweetened with agave nectar. It is under 200 calories with 8 grams of healthy fats, 19 grams of carbohydrates (5 of which are fiber), and 11 grams of protein. You can also name the bar whatever you want! I named mine: MISSION POSSIBLE (of course)! The coolest part is that you can see the nutrition facts being calculated as you add and subtract various ingredients. WHOA!!! |

Replace your MONA VIE with PROTANDIM!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was taking MONA VIE infused with glucosamine for a while for its antioxidant benefits, but I feel like my body got used to it. I wasn't feeling a difference between taking it and not taking it. My chiropractor, Dennis Colonello, D.C., of Peak Wellness in Beverly Hills turned me onto Protandim (the ONLY thing clinically proven to reduce free radical damage). Protandim is not an antioxidant supplement. It helps your body produce its own antioxidants with thousands of times more antioxidant power than any food or conventional supplement.
Our bodies benefit from the vitamins and minerals found in foods known to be rich in antioxidants such as oranges, dark chocolate and red wine. We are told that if we eat these foods, and other foods like them, we’ll receive tremendous antioxidant rewards. To achieve maximum health, you need sources beyond your food to fill in the gaps.
Surprisingly, scientific studies show that your body can’t possibly ingest enough antioxidants to eliminate the number of free radicals your body makes every day. You would need to eat ridiculous amounts of foods rich in antioxidants (32 pounds of strawberries, 31 pounds of raspberries, 15 pounds of dark chocolate per day for example), to achieve the antioxidant power you get from one Protandim caplet each day. How cool is that?!
Aging factors can be measured accurately by the amount of TBARS (thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances) found in the blood. In clinical trials with men and women, young and old, the blood samples consistently demonstrated that after 30 days, taking one caplet a day, test subjects realized a 40 percent average decrease in TBARS - the progressive aging rate of a 20 year old! Woo hoo!!!!
When you take Protandim, you trigger what your body already knows how to do, only better. You ‘tell’ your body to increase production of its own two antioxidant enzymes, which helps prevent free radical damage to your cells thousands of times more effectively than any conventional antioxidant therapy. Healthier cells mean a healthier immune system, and decreased chance of disease as you age.
(source: www.protandim.com)
So! Having said all of that... I'm definitley going to continue eating dark chocolate everyday and enjoying red wine on occasion. I'll take Protandim to take care of my body's antioxidant needs.

What is customized skin rejuventation?
I've blogged about the incredible Debbie Frost at Dr. Moy's office before. She's so good at what she does, I'm blogging about her again! She just got this new machine in the office called: The Laser 360. What is it and how does it work???
- It addresses the key needs of the individual patient's skin (color, texture, tone, and tightening).
- The colors red and brown are addressed with a series of 3 IPL procedures using two different laser wavelengths
- Your skin tightens after 7 treatments
- Microdermabrasion is used before each treatment to clear away dead skin and debris for a more efficient treatment
A series of 7 treatments is done over a period of 3 months, with each treatment 2 weeks apart. This gives each patient 7 microdermabrasions, 7 skin tightening treatments, 4 Pixel treatments, and 3 Photo facials!!! Talk about being thorough! It helps to even skin tone, decrease wrinkles, erases scars and sun damage, and gives you a brilliant glow! Buying a package of treatments will save you over $3000! Email Debbie to find out more: dfrost.drmoy@yahoo.com. She also does great laser hair removal treatments! :) |

Have you FENG SHUI-ED your life yet?
One of my favorite quotes of all time is: "The only constant is change." So true, right? Sometimes change can be scary but it always seems to work out it the end. One of my dearest friends sent me an email with this African proverb: “Change is inevitable – growth is optional. When the music changes – so should the dance.” WOW! I love that!
You would be surprised how changing around the placement of your furniture or office set up can improve the energy flow in your life. Feng Shui has been practiced for over 4000 years to create harmony and balance in a home or business. Creating balance by reducing the dominating or negative elements and enhancing the positive elements, is one of the important layers of traditional Feng Shui. These elements effect your health, career, prosperity, relationships, negative influences (such as accidents, struggles, or delays) as well as positive influences.
Have you ever wondered why you are having a mental block when you "should" be able to focus? Do some places make you feel tense or drained while others leave you feeling relaxed and energized? The environment of where we live, work, and sleep effects our health, finances, our interactions with other people and all areas of our lives.
I've always been interested in Feng Shui but never had a Feng Shui consultant come into my home or office. For about 10 months, I was having a hard time sleeping at night because my thoughts were very loud. I had so much on my mind and had difficulty focusing on certain areas of work (i.e. blogging and emailing). I was beginning to get used to it when, out of "nowhere", my good friend Jennifer Bonetto, who is a Feng Shui consultant, called me to see if I would be interested in Feng Shui-ing my space. I said: "YES! Absolutely!"
So, she did. We literally flipped EVERYTHING around in my living room, office, and bedroom. Needless to say, the following Sunday Mission Possible™ was overbooked for the first time in months, I was again able to PLOW through emails like it was nobody's business, I got two new private clients out of "nowhere" and I was sleeping soundly at night. I also got rid of a bunch of "stuff" that wasn't being used and I redecorated my entire bedroom. My creativity was flowing and I reached new levels of brainstorming with my business coach, Paul Velick (who is AMAZING, btw!!!).
Jennifer's business is called SOULutions and I HIGHLY suggest you contact her! She specializes in Theta Healing, Classical Feng Shui, and Crystal Bed Therapy. Click HERE to check out her site! |

Check out this best kept secret!!!
I just experienced the most AMAZING facial! I've been buying most of my beauty products (Jane Iredale makeup and shampoo/conditioner) from this place called Barrington Court Health & Beauty for a while. It is seriously the one-stop shop for your all your beauty needs (products and services)! The owners always suggested I try a facial with their aesthetician, Heather Funk (what a cool last name!!). They are all so kind and lovely! It's a family run business and they treat all of their customers just like family! They are very helpful and make you feel right at home.
I finally found some time to get a treartment from her, and WHOA! I have never had a facial quite like that in my entire life. Not only did Heather give my entire face, neck, chest, arms, and hands an incredible massage (while my peel went to work on my face), she also gave my hands a parrafin treatment! I was in HEAVEN! She was very gentle, but extremely thorough at the same time. I recommend her to anyone and everyone: she even treats entire families! She has quite the clientele list. Click here to find out more about their services, location, and products! |

So, as some of you may know...

Agent Ivka has been training with me for about 6 or 7 months and has a wonderful mind/body awareness. She subbed today's Mission will also be subbing for me tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 am! I have full confidence in her capabilities of being a kick ass Mission leader and I hope you come to Mission tomorrow to support her and the growth of Mission Possible™. There will NOT be a Mission on Sunday, but the normal schedule will resume this Wednesday.

Casein Protein: Are you getting enough??
I make sure to eat certain proteins at certain times of the day to maximize muscle repair and growth. I consume casein protein (i.e., low fat cottage cheese) and whey protein (Isagenix shakes) at appropriate times to create a balance. Casein protein has an excellent amino acid profile and is primarily known as an extremely slow-digesting protein, which results in a steady release of amino acids into the blood stream over time.
Research shows that when you consume casein, you will reach a peak in blood amino acids and protein synthesis between 3-4 hours. The total release of amino acids in the bloodstream can actually last as long as 7 hours after ingestion of casein protein! It's really the only protein you should be taking or eating before going to sleep. Why? Because your body needs to be sustained for six to eight hours while sleeping without refueling. You don’t want your hard-earned muscle being broken down in your sleep, so a protein that is slowly released over time is best. I like to have 3/4 cup of cottage cheese with cinnamon and stevia (it tastes like dessert!) about an hour before bed.
Whey protein in comparison, reaches a peak in blood amino acids and protein synthesis in about forty minutes and the total release ends in about an hour or so. If you took whey protein before going to bed, it would do very little since whey is absorbed and used within an hour. Whey protein should be used first thing in the morning and after workouts. |

MARCH MADNESS!!!
After the crazy holidays are over, many of us set unrealistically high fitness goals in the shortest amount of time possible. January is a HUGE month in fitness and then it drops off a bit because there is something to be said for setting the bar too high and getting burned out. February is a short month of falling off the wagon.
But March is here and my Agents and I are ready to rumble! Here's some valid proof: on MARCH 1st, and for the first time in months, Mission Possible™ was overbooked with a waitlist of 5 people! I usually cap the Missions at 10 Agents, but 12 showed up and I wasn't about to turn anyone away. The excitement in all of their eyes supercharged me, and I had so much fun making them all sweat!
Most people signed up for the monthly unlimited and are so ready to make Mission Possible™ a part of their lifestyle, because it is certainly not a fad! I've been making you all sweat for 2 years and MP™ is still thriving! Thank you so much for all of your support and dedication!!! |

Mission Possible™ Agents: all ages and fitness levels welcome!
Many people often ask me what the common demographic is with Mission Possible™. I say that anyone is encouraged to join us because the only true limitations are ones that we place on ourselves. I cater each and every Mission to everyone who joins. If someone is a first time Agent or has an injury, I offer modifications to enhance their current fitness level while my veteran Agents bust out the familiar exercises. I've had an 8 year old Agent and a 65 year old Agent come to the regular, not the beginners', Missions for their first time!
If you are ever doubting yourself in anything that you do, try this mantra: think of the word IMPOSSIBLE and simply put an apostrophe in between the I and the M. Then visualize making a space between the M and the P. It's amazing how small changes can alter the entire meaning of that word. It becomes: I'M POSSIBLE!!!!!!! |

Wanna know what supplements I take?
Have you ever thought that you could erase the weekend shenanigans if you were at least taking your daily vitamins and minerals? While taking the recommended dose of high quality supplements can only help you, it is important to take them with a healthy and balanced diet. Vitamins and minerals only fill in the gaps of your diet, but they cannot replace complete nutrition from the foods you eat.
For dinner, I had a tofu scramble (complete protein) with wild rice (fiber and healthy carbs) on top of a yummy selection of different organic veggies and grains: orange bell peppers, baby carrots, sprouted peas, sprouted sunflower seeds, sprouted kamut, mini tomatoes, sugar snap peas, and flaxseed meal. I dressed the dish with balsamic vinegar and added a dash of white truffle sea salt from Dean and Deluca. My dinner consisted of healthy and low glycemic carbohydrates, complete protein, and healthy fats with a wide variety of vitamins and minerals in just one bowl. I still take supplements to cover all my bases. Here they are:
- WellBetX Daily Packets for Glucose Balance: I take a packet morning and night. In each packet there are 7 pills: 2 Complete Multis for Glucose Balance tablets (packed with tons of vitamins and minerals), 1 WellBetX RxOmega-3 Factors + GLA softgel (formulated with a fish oil blend and Gamma Linolenic Acid), 1 Vitamin E 400 IU softgel, 2 Glucose Balance Herbal Formula tablets (a nice blend of herbs), and 1 Alpha-Lipoic Acid capsule (an antioxidant which supports the cellular uptake of glucose).
- Symbiotics Colostrum Plus capsules: On an empty stomach, I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night to support the health of my GI tract and strengthen my immune system.
- NeoCell Collagen + C tablets (a complex structural protein): I take 3 in the morning and 3 at night for maintenance of the strength and flexibility of skin, ligaments, bones, joints, muscles, tendons, gums, teeth, eyes, blood vessels, nails, and hair. We lose collagen as we age, so I am taking this now instead of waiting until I really need it!
- CENSOR BODY TONER Omega 3-6-9 Natural Oils Blend: I take 2 capsules with meals twice a day to support healthy metabolization of fat.
- Isagenix Natural Accelerator: I take one in the morning and one at night to support my metabolism. It is completely natural and without Ma-huang or ephedrine ingredients.
I sometimes go through cycles with supplements. For example, I will take a certain supplement for a couple months and then take a break from it so my body doesn't get too used to it. I go through cycles with the Colostrum all the time. I have taken certain herbs or supplements for too long before and then I feel like they almost stop working. I started taking the Daily Packets about 3 years ago and stopped taking them for a few months to see if I would feel differently. I actually did notice a slight difference in the way I felt and even saw a change in the elasticity of my hair. I began taking the Daily Packets again and also started taking the Collagen tablets simultaneously. So far, so good! |

WHAT'S ON MY iPOD this week???
Music can either make or break a workout. While keeping a class motivated is a task in and of itself, having a wicked playlist can make that task more fun for everyone. I like to play music that fuels my fire so I can organically get everyone fired up. Here's what's on my most recent playlist from last Friday's SPIN class at Sports Club LA:
1. Finally by Kings of Tomorrow --> I like the beat of this song. It starts off mellow and then builds up to a fun pace. It was perfect for getting everyone in the mood to burn calories while we all got set up on our bikes.
2. Electric Feel by MGMT --> Hands down my favorite song right now! It makes me want to dance on the bike. It was the best warm up song. We did a slight hill with a moderate pace.
3. Crack a Bottle by Eminem, Dr. Dre, & 50 Cent--> We were already warmed up by now so we did intervals on a hill to this track. Everytime Eminem "sang" the chorus, we sprinted up the hill. It was INTENSE!!!
4. When I Grow Up by The Pussycat Dolls --> This was sweet for doing jumps and sprints! I love how powerful and sexy this song is at the same time!
5. Apocalypse by Arno Cost --> This is typical Euro club techno and we did a long sprint on a flat road while doing pushups on the handles. There is a CRAZY build up and it's ridiculous how your endorphins explode once the beat launches 2 minutes in!!!
6. Don't Stop Believin' by Journey --> It lightened the mood and made the class even more fun than it already was. We were all laughing.
7. Girls On The Dancefloor by The Far East Movement --> I love this track! It's new and nobody had heard it yet! It was perfect for a fast hill with jumps.
8. Delirious by David Guetta --> Another Euro club techno beat. It's quite possibly one of the best songs for Spinning... EVER! If you haven't heard it yet, you must! There's a siren in the background and it makes you want to Spin faster than you ever have in your entire life!
9. Thriller (Midnight Hour Mix) by Richard Grey --> As if Michael Jackson's Thriller could get any better?! Well, it can and it did! This mix is soooo good! This song was MADE for DANCING on a bike!
10. Love Generation by Bob Sinclair--> Bob Sinclair is an incredible DJ and a French GOD! He DJ'd an event I went to last year and I fell in love with this song! It's very upbeat and positive.
11. Dirty Harry by Gorillaz --> I wish I knew what these guys looked like! They refuse to be photographed! I think they wear gorilla masks all the time! Anyway, it was an amazing song for a rolling hills exercise (up and down resistance).
12. Elevator (feat. Timbaland) by Flo Rida --> We did launching sprints (don't ask, you gotta come to my class to find out what they are! ) and added resistance as the song progressed. This was almost our last stretch but then I decided the next song would be!
13. Lux Aeterna by unknown artist --> One of my friends put this song on a mix CD for me and it is so empowering! I just HAD to play it in my Spin class! It's played on quite a few movie soundtracks - very dramatic! I played the 6 minute version but you can download a shorter version by Clint Mansell. Everyone's legs were burning during the last stretch. It was so incredible!
14. I Hate This Part by The Pussycat Dolls --> This was our cool down song. It still has a quick enough beat to keep everyone's legs moving but it sets the tone for a cool down mood.
15. Sun Is Shining by Reunited --> This is a pure, feel good track. It was mellow enough for our deep stretching at the end.

Nutrition for your pet is important too!!!
We all know that eating healthy food is important for us (whether we eat healthy food or not!). But keeping chemicals and preservatives out of our bodies shouldn't stop with human. Pet food can also be jam packed with tons of crap! Most brands are laced with fillers and unnatural ingredients.
Some of you are aware that I have a beautiful pure bred Siberian kitty. She is the apple of my eye and I am so blessed to have her. Last summer, I was training 3 princesses from Saudi Arabia while they were vacationing in Los Angeles. One of the princesses bought 3 pure bred Siberian kittens (only 2 months old! ) from a breeder and was devastated to learn that bringing them back to Saudi Arabia would be very difficult with customs (they would've been quarantined for 6 months!). She didn't want them to go through that so she asked me to help her find homes for them. As soon as I saw them I fell in love with one in particular: I named her Bisou.
When I adopted her, the princess told me that when she took them to the vet, there was blood found in all of their stools. She gave me the medicine that she was giving to all of them, along with the food that she was feeding them. When I got home and introduced her to my place, I looked at the food she put in the bag: canned Fancy Feast (actually recommended by the breeder, so it was not her fault). I knew before I even looked at the ingredients that this was the culprit for her irregular bowels and "need" for medication. I looked at the ingredients anyway and they looked a little something like this:
Water Sufficient for Processing
Poultry By-product Meal
Soybean Meal
Corn Gluten Meal
Wheat Flour
Ground Yellow Corn
Salmon
Tuna
Chicken
Animal Fat Preserved with BHA (what's BHA? Read below!)
Phosphoric Acid
Brewers Dried Yeast
Fumaric Acid
Tricalcium Phosphate
Vegetable Oil
Salt
Sorbic Acid (preservative)
Choline Chloride
Added Color (Red 40, Blue 1 and Other Color)
Propionic Acid (preservative)
Dried Whey
Taurine
Zinc Oxide
Ferrous Sulfate
Niacin
Vitamin Supplements (A, E, B-12, D-3)
Calcium Pantothenate
Riboflavin Supplement
Manganese Sulfate
Biotin
Thiamine Mononitrate
Folic Acid
Pyridoxine Hydrochloride
Copper Sulfate
Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K Activity)
Calcium Iodate
Ummm, okay... That list is almost like a whole PARAGRAPH! And WHY does there have to be preservatives and dyes in there?! And ANIMAL FAT preserved with BHA?! Disgusting! Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) is a white or yellowish waxy solid. It is used to prevent fats from spoiling. In addition to preserving foods, BHA is also used to preserve fats and oils in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Would YOU eat that?! There is evidence that certain people may have difficulty metabolizing BHA, resulting in health and behavior changes (source: About.com: CHEMISTRY).
So, anyway... I immediately tossed all of the Fancy Feast cans and went to Whole Foods. I found a brand called Wellness (also found at Petco and Petsmart). All of their ingredients are natural and you can recognize all of them! You won't find an ingredient you cannot pronounce! Below are some words from their website (www.wellnesspetfood.com):

I also threw away the medication (I didn't give it to her once) and only fed her the Wellness brand. I inspected all of her bowels and never saw a drop of blood. When I took her to the vet, she was impressed that Bisou (my kitty) was so vibrant and healthy. So please be good to your pets' bodies as well as your own! Always read the ingredients before you buy something! If you cannot pronounce it, you (or your pet) probably shouldn't eat it! |
